2012 Energy Efficient Buildings Mills Library, Energy Audit, The project undertaken is an energy audit of the Mills Library on McMaster University campus, also one of the project aims was to look at the interaction between heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems (HVAC) with the building envelope and the control systems. The team in the project looked at the new available technologies and changes of behaviours that can make the building more efficient. This is achieved through multiple phases that included, consumption data collection, blueprint examination and site visits to inspect the building envelope and mechanical room. In addition meeting with the building occupants and caretaker enhanced the understanding of the buildings operation. The team then used the collected data and the analysis results to address any inefficiency through energy conservation measures (ECMs). The team also used the information to build a RET screen model to assess the impact of the ECMs. The energy conservation measures were only considered if they had a payback period less than 10 years.
2011 participated in Hamilton Integrated Energy Mapping Strategy, the IEMC undertaking five activities:
- Evaluated energy reduction opportunities
- Reviewed the application of cost-effective alternative technology
- Assessed the potential to reduce the impact of transportation related to energy use
